It’s hard to believe that just last Christmas, what we called the “playroom” was really just a little corner of our family room, a small section we carved out to give our daughter a space of her own.
We added cushioned foam tiles and a soft, cushioned rug, brought in a play couch for endless climbing and cuddling, hung a cute banner, and tucked in some cube storage with a few baskets to keep things tidy. Warm wall sconce lighting and simple art made it feel intentional, cozy, but still part of the heart of our home.
Over the past year, though, her toys (and imagination!) have grown right along with her, and we decided it was time to give her something more: a true playroom. The basement was already finished, which gave us the perfect blank slate, but we wanted to make it more comfortable, organized, and efficient for everyday play.
We started with a few light updates, organizing the closets for better storage, replacing the old fluorescent lights with bright, energy-efficient LEDs, updating the ceiling tiles, painting, and finally laying brand-new carpeting. It already feels like a completely different space, lighter, warmer, and ready for memories.
Now that the remodeling is done, we’ve officially moved the toys downstairs and are working on the fun part: organizing and decorating (Christmas tree is already up!) Finding the right baskets and shelving, cube storage, adding cozy touches, an area rug, and making sure the space feels playful but still calm, something that grows with her, not something she’ll outgrow too quickly.
It’s been such a full-circle project, from a little corner of the living room to a full playroom that reflects how much life has changed this past year. I can already picture so many cozy winter mornings down there, building, reading, and imagining together. 🤎
